位於谷埔村紅樹林濕地後方老圍的宋家宅院，是香港沙頭角地區傳統的客家民居建築。由於年久失修屋瓦崩塌，宅院裡依附老牆生長的參天大樹和建築的斷垣殘壁，結合成為獨特的空間形式。香港大學建築學院中國建築與城市研究中心團隊在鄉郊基金的支助下，開啟了一種「廢墟花園」的保育設計探索。這不僅是建築的遺產保育與村民的生活記憶，更是一種超越現實的文化想像與再生。老圍廢墟花園的保育設計，見證物質文化取之自然回歸自然的過程，揭示了建築牆體材質肌理與風雨自然的對話。

Located behind the mangrove wetlands of Kuk Po Village, the Sung family residence is a traditional Hakka dwelling of the Sha Tau Kok region. The Centre for Chinese Architecture and Urbanism team of the University of Hong Kong began an exploration into conserving the site as a Ruins Garden.

The Ruin Garden of Kuk Po Lo Wai is both a site of architectural heritage and a repository of villagers’ living memories. It is a place where nature and materiality, humanity and art, converge into a cultural imagination.
